The Ethiopian year consists of 12 months of 30 days each, to which are added 6 days at the end of each leap year and 5 days at the end of each non-leap-year so as to make up 366 or 365 days. These extra days are called Pagumen.
Each year is named after one of the four Evangelists. The Ethiopian year 1960 (John) began on our 12 September, 1967.
