Much credit is given to this last ruler of the Solomonic line of Kings for the modernization of the imperial realm, the issuing of a Constitution, the active role of Ethiopia in world affairs within a policy of peaceful neutrality, and the general improvement of living conditions for the people of Ethiopia, Africa, and the world.

The Crown’s period of inactivity is over. The Crown’s period of silence and retreat is over.
Firstly, it can offer an impartial symbol of national unity to all Ethiopians. The Crown is not the crown of only one or two groups of Ethiopians. Although the Crown has long and traditional ties with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, it is nonetheless the Crown of Ethiopians of all religions, favoring none above another, nor one ethnic or national or linguistic group above another; The Crown is Ethiopia, and its divisions, therefore, are all the people of Ethiopia.
|
On April 8, 1989, Zera Yacob was named "Heir Apparent" when Crown Prince Asfa Wossen assumed the title "Emperor in Exile". With the ascension of Emperor Amha Selassie I, Crown Prince Asfa Wossen is regarded as head of the Imperial Family of Ethiopia.
