1892 - July 23 (16 Hamle 1884) - Birthdate of Haile Selassie I as Ledj Tafari Makonnen in Ejarsa
Goro in Harar, Ethiopia. Tafari is the son of Ras Makonnen, a Shoa Amharan nobel, who was married
to an Oromo, Waziero Yashimabet, who died two years after the birth of Ledj Tafari. Negus Ras
Tafari Makonnen was given his religious/spiritual name, Haile Selassie I (Might of the Trinity) upon
his transfiguration on November 2, 1930.
1895 - Italy invades Ethiopia
1896 - March 1 - Battle of Adowa
1896 - October 10 - Menelik II defeats the Italians and signs the Treaty of Addis Ababa
1897 - 1899 - Teferi Mekonnen 5 and 7 yrs old
1903 - Teferi Mekonnen 11 years old
1905 - Tafari Makonnen assigned first military title "Dejazmach" (keeper of 'the Gate') by his father
Ras Makonnen. "Keeper of the Gate" is similar to the title of "Count" in Western terms.
1906 - March 21 - (13 Magabit 1898) - Tafari's Father, Ras Makonnen ascension
1907 - Appointed position of Dejazmach
1910 - March 3 - Tafari appointed "Ras" (Governor) of his home province of Harar
1911 - July 31 - Ras Tafari marries Menen Asfaw
1913 - December 12 - Menelik II's ascension
1916 - September 27 - Ras Tafari Makonnen is made Regent and Heir to the Solomonic Throne
1923 - Ethiopia, represented by Regent Ras Tafari, becomes a member of the League of Nations (An
international organization formed in 1920 to promote peace and co-operation between countries).
1928 - September 7 (27 Meskarem 1921) - Regent Ras Tafari assumes the title Negus and office
of King as he was crowned Negus Ras Tafari.
1930 - April 2 - Passing of Negus Ras Tafari's cousin Empress Zewditu.
1930 - November 2 (23 Tekent 1922) - Transfiguration Day. On this day after court mourning for
Empress Zewditu ended, proclaimed heir to the throne Negus Ras Tafari Makonnen ascends the
royal throne of King David and King Solomon and is elevated as "His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile
Selassie I, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Elect of God, King of kings of Ethiopia" assuming
the title Negus Negast (King of kings), office of Emperor and vested with the 7 ornaments of the
Coronation: Gold Sword, Diamond Encrusted Ring, 2 Traditional Lances, Imperial Scepter, Gold
Globe (Orb), Imperial Crown. Elevated and ascends the throne of David as His Imperial Majesty
Emperor Haile Selassie I (Might of the Trinity) followed by the crowning of Empress Menen Asfaw
ascending with the title of Negesti Negast (Queen of queens) . Documented in The Biography of

1931 - July 31 - Promulagated the first Ethiopian Constitution to Our Ethiopian people
1935 - Emperor Haile Selassie I Portrait
1935 - Mussolini invades Ethiopia
1935 - May 02 - Imperial Family departs Ethiopia for Djibouti for safety from barbaric Italian
invaders.
1936 - Emperor Haile Selassie I at the League of Nations
1936 - Emperor Haile Selassie I addresses the League of Nations regarding the unlawful invasion of
Ethiopia by Italy.
1936 - His Imperial Majesty goes into exile in Bath, England while waiting for the League of Nations
to act.
1936 - His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I meets with Mr. Johnson, a Bath citizen, in Victoria Park,

1940 - January 22 - With United Nations failing to act, Emperor Haile Selassie I returns to Ethiopian
soil issuing the 'The Golden Declaration' leading Ethiopians and allied forces against the Italian
occupation.
1941 - May 5 - Haile Selassie I's triumphant return to Addis Ababa and sits on the throne re-
establishing Solomonic Dynasty and God's covenant with David.
1946 - Emperor Haile Selassie I Family at Palace
1951 - Emperor Haile Selassie I builds the new Cathedral of St. Mary of Zion to house the Ark of the
Covenant
1952 - Eritrea federated with Ethiopia by U.N.
1954 - Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie the 1st., Princess Seble Desta, and Prince Sahle Salessie,
visit with United Stated President Dwight D. Eisenhower, his wife, Mamie Eisenhower, at the White
House.
1954 - May 28 - President Mordecai W. Johnson escorts His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie,
Emperor of Ethiopia, to a special convocation during which the Emperor receives the honorary

1954 - May 30 - Emperor Haile Selassie I visits the Abyssianian Baptist Church built in 1898 by
American citizens of African descent and awards Pastor and presents an Ethiopian Orthodox Church
Cross to US Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.
1954 - June 2 - Emperor Haile Selassie I awards Mayor Robert Wagner of NY the Grand Cordon of
the Order of Menelik, the highest civilian decoration awarded by Ethiopia.

1989 - Asfa Wossen assumed the title "Emperor-in-Exile" Amha Selassie I and Zara Yacob named
Crown Prince.
The Crown Council of Ethiopia is the Constitutional Body which advises the reigning Emperors of
Ethiopia and, during an interregnum (such as now), actually acts on behalf of the Crown. The
Council’s members are initially appointed by an Emperor, and subsequently (during an
interregnum) sustained in their posts or replaced under the direction of the President of the Council.

2011 - March 12 - H.I.H. Prince Ermias Sahle-Selassie Haile-Selassie; President of the Crown Council
of Ethiopia awards Abuna Ammanuel Foxe the Commander of the Imperial Order of the Star of
Ethiopia.
2014 - November 02 - Temple Worship Service at The Church of Haile Selassie I, Brooklyn, NY., in
recognition of Transfiguration Day and Coronation Day of our God and King, His Imperial Majesty
Emperor Haile Selassie I.
2016 - April 21 - 50th Anniversary of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I's visit to
Jamaica, W.I. In recognition of this special occasion; His Imperial Highness Prince Ermias Sahle-
Selassie Haile Selassie visited Jamaica to honor this historical visit of his Grandfather.

built-up triangle in the center of the capital. The
symbol suggests the name of the ruler, which means
Power of the Trinity (see test, page 682).
